"MUSCAT — Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Harthy, cultural affairs undersecretary at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, yesterday announced the logo of Muscat as the capital of Arab culture 2006. He told a news conference held at the ministry yesterday that the logo documented the time and place aspects, noting that it was selected from among 68 samples.
He added the logo comes in the shape of a ship mast with a sail to embody the journey and the various cultural spaces as the ship used to be an important means to impart sciences. The logo reflects the remarkable role of Omanis across the ages. The press conference was attended by officials from the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and the Ministry of Information. — ONA "

That logo reminds me of my work 3 years ago when I barely knew how to use any graphic designing software and all i did was add the rediculous bevel and shadow effects on everything I made ( those who followed my work since the start would probably remember my rediculously beveled cartoons.. lol ). The point here.. is how in gods name can they choose this piece of trash as a logo to represent the event? I am 100% sure that there were other logos that were a zillion times better than this. There is absolutely no relation at all in the making of this 'thing' to any of the 'rules' which one should follow when it comes to designing a logo.
So lets see...
- The text positions arent studied well.
- The colors (red and yellow gradient with blue?)..well I don't think i even have to comment on that.
- What god damn ship are they talking about? is this supposed to be symbolic? if so..then It's just poorly presented.
- Too many pointy edges.
- It isnt even in vector (flat) format which is how logos are supposed to be designed.
I was supposed to join the competition they held to create the logo but then decided against it and you know what? I am really really glad that I ditched the idea..especially after seeing THAT 'thing'.
Once again , oman proves that it still lives in the dark ages.

What colors they got for the text Muscat, they are hiding it more than showing it!
Showing a ship, where is the ship?!! I remember my brother is used to create ship/boat using the text Oman in Arabic, I believe he did it many times using other words. So I believe he would create something for Muscat as well!

loool... 3ad ma logo!...btw, the font under it sucks, even though my fonts suck too, this one's way worse in my point of view. Gets me thinking... is this a lack of skill or a lack of taste?

Agh!! God that is probably one of the ugliest logos I've ever seen. But then look around you, most company or events logos here in Oman such. I only like the Nawras logo.

I don't really HAAAAATE the logo , and i dont think its totalllllly ugly, I like the glasess and i like the boat but over all the logo is sad. and I don't know why he chose a ship, what is 3asemat al-thaqafa i mean what is the event about? plus i agree with NF that muscat word is just ehhehehehee....

lol naj , just cause i didnt submit anything doesnt mean i can't critisize their rediculous choice. I know for a fact that there were other logos submitted that are a million times better than that.
i agree looks ugly and now with the whole explanation it makes it look worse.. what ship.. ? i thought more of a space craft thing...! and i hated the way they teased us, for a whole week or more, they showed us a small part and with every new day and new newpaper print the part would gt bigger and then finally the whole logo with the press conference. anticlimax i tell u.. i'm dissapointed

they did it on all the newspappers i think, alshabiba, alwatan. not sure about oman newspaper, or the english newspapers. for an entire week till they showed the whole thing... and from day one i kept trying to figure out whats this logo for? something blue..! i thought it would be for the the blue city or something.

apparently i was wrong, that whole teaser gimmick was for "Futoon" and not the logo! it was an honest mistake, they both blue and not that attractive. my bad!
