I opened photoshop , and I spent around 3 hours desinging and arranging till I came up with this..

Being so happy , thinking that wow..I came up with something a bit different than what everyone else might come up with ( the students whom are with me barely know how to use anything other than adobe illustrator ) I went to class and there is where I got the biggest slap on the face. The professor cussed it out from A to Z and said that its 'cluttered' , that the point edges give him an un-easy feeling and that the over all arrangment was just not acceptable. Being pissed , I went to another professor , who was much younger than the one who teaches me , and he absolutely loved it , saying that its very different than what the other students usually come up with , and so I told him that it is rejected and that the professor who teaches me did not like it at all.
Anyways.. I then decided that I will not spend any time being creative for this professor who teaches me and so I just took an image from online , modified it a bit using photoshop , addedd some text and came up with this :

This thing took me around 40 minutes to make , and guess what , the professor LOVED IT and said that its exactly what he was looking for. *rolles eyes*
looking at some of the art work that is displayed on the art department's walls , I used to think..gosh..how bad are some of the student designers , but now I realize that they don't really have much of a choice to be creative , with such professors telling them their work is bad..and that they should stick to the typical last century boring forumla.
Graphic designing can be such a degrading profession , You will have to swallow your pride , forget your artistic point of view and just succumb to the customers demands even if it is awful in your opinion. This worries me cause sometimes I find it hard to just accept other people's point of view on what 'looks good' and so that could get me in alot of trouble. *sigh*

Your professor must be color and shape blind; the first one is an eye catcher. I thought the second one was rather boring.
Book covers are pretty important you know; I know they say don't judge a book by its cover but I always find myself getting attracted to books that have clean, sharp colorful covers as opposed to the boring dull ones.
I guess Nabhan, as long as you can reach the consumer's needs then you will be fine.
sam , exactly..I was thinking of 'eye candy' cause its what I would look like in a book cover..but my professor is just a dull 55 year old man. lol
That’s really weird & sad at the same time. Your professor should have appreciated your creativity & encouraged you instead of making you feel down. Any way you don’t need his opinion to know that you did well. =)

I believe the two designs are representing the two titles very well, especially the 1st one, where the idea of the 2nd was great as well.
I just think for what happened, that old man was expecting something else, so that was his re-action.
I really liked the first one a lot.. its an eye catcher.. something new and creative.. well done Nabs..
The second one is good as well.. it goes well with the book title.
that professor of yours is sure blind.. lol
I am sorry :(
I second whatever everyone else said. No need to repeat it. :)
lol W ( share your blog add laa! ) , your first post actually made my day and put a huge smile on my face..but thanks a million on the detailed thought. I am not really upset with my professor , I guess that's just his taste and for now I will have to just accept what he tells me to do ( I got 14/15 in this exam) so thats cool. :D
Hope to see u around here more often. :)
