Would you like to erase your memories?

I made that illustration last week after a very personal thought crossed my head. It's one of my most personal pieces to date because certain painful memories were triggered and I just couldn't help but feel that it would have been better if we had the ability to erase all of our bad memories. I'm not talking about the simple ones, I'm talking about those that have left scars in us that are so hard to get over and whenever something triggers it it just brings you back to that moment in which the pain was inflicted like mini time machines that only go back and never let you move forward.

But thinking about it some more after the pain is washed away If I was really given the chance to erase them I don't think that I would because after all they're what made me who I am today. All the lessons that are learnt from them are worth the pain after all and anyways that's how lessons are learnt, from bad experiences and mistakes. one just needs to think beyond them and push himself forward no matter what and thats exactly what I am doing.

Would you want to erase your painful memories? now that's a thought for you.

perhaps it's not easy to erase a deep cut... only time might heal it if one decides to move on without dwelling on those memories. But that again takes time to accomplish.
so time's perhaps your key... and ofcourse your will plays a part.

as for the question... yes, I'd want to erase it... what I'd keep is the lesson learnt from it... but the memory itself should go away if it causes me pain.
It might not go... it might stay in the back of my head for sure... but how much it affects me would determine my progress of whether I succeeded in opening a new page or not.

lol..no no tee it doesn't work that way cause thats just cheating. if you erase the memory then the lesson has to go as well because there will be no trace of that memory at all..so will u still want to erase it in that case?

mate!... when you take lessons in class you end up with conclusions you have to take home with you... you don't always repeat the scenes or images of your lessons...
what cheating?...lol... that's just like going from a lower level to a higher level... the things in level 1 you've already learnt and don't need to get back to them again to relearn... why?...cuz they're already in the back of your head...
How does your mind work?...lol

I've made mistakes before... they're mistakes I will never repeat again now... but you won't see me going back to that time and dwelling on how embarrassing or humiliating it was. Cuz I already know... remembering will just make me feel humiliated all over again...

HOWEVER not remembering doesn't mean erasing it... it means learning to live with it until its memory does not affect you anymore.

perhaps I won't erase it... but I will as it is commonly said "get over it"

I agree with you nabs. Some memories just suck and I wouldn't even want to remember the lesson learnt from them!!
When I was between 8-9 yrz old, I used to tell my friend that when I grow up, I would invent a machine that connects to your brain and then you can choose to erase the memories you don't want .. that was how bad I wanted to forget some memories. So I guess your not alone. =)

As much as I'd want to forget, but I wouldn't erase a single thing..
Memories, the good and the bad, are what shaped me to what I am today.. I like myself.. If I didn't have those incidents to scar me, god knows how I would've turned out..

All I'm saying is, if erasing memories means erasing the lesson learnt, then no, whats the point? You'll just fall into that hole over and over again.. That would only double and triple the pain the first time, because you never learn!

Make mistakes and keep their memories as reminders.. Time will heal every wound.. you can be sure about that.. :)
