I basically had a pretty big shock today in my psychology class. The professor was talking about gay people and that it's a psychological problem (I don't agree but that's another story) and that in the west gay marriage is allowed and then suddenly this student mentions that it's also allowed in the Arab and Islamic world. Where exactly? surprise surprise..it's non other than our beloved Oman.
He basically went on and on about how gay couples from Kuwait or Saudi Arabia come to Oman to get married and that it's allowed over there and of course being the blunt person that I am I immediately raised my hand to correct this weird and rather disturbing rumor and I told the professor out loud that I am Omani and lived in Oman most of my life and that I have never heard of such a thing, Yes there are fags in our society and then again which society doesn't have them? but we absolutely do not allow gay marriage.
It was just rather disturbing and I hope that I made a difference by correcting him although I kinda got the feeling that whatever I said went through one ear and out the other but oh well, at least I did what I could, and I certainly hope that I was correct.

What is more disturbing is that this was said by a professor of a university, who should base his findings and lectures on facts and not just hearsay and rumors. I'm glad you set him right, if he didnt listen maybe one the students did.

People can't differentiate between what sick minds do & what if the country allows the action or not.

Haven't heard of any such cases around here! However I hope you are right and the guy is wrong but there is a possibility that he is right and you are wrong!

He stated that it IS allowed in Oman and the society is not against it. How can that be true? Do you think people in Oman here are OK with gay marriages? Gay marriages might occur in Oman, you never know, but I'm pretty sure that the society doesn't accept such things.
Kay and TripleTee: I think you're mistaken guys. The one who stated that is a student, not the professor. I wonder where did the student get that statement from though.

It’s so disturbing when a country is jugged by ppl’s own actions, NO Oman will never allow such behavior and it’s the first country around the Gulf which is so attached to it’s beautiful clean Islamic Culture and habits… Our Men are true Men wither they know that or not…
This can be the result of mind sets believing the unreasonable such as rumors, despite any given logical facts that totally defy them.

Its not only jordan where this rumors are reaching, its every where in the arab countries..ask me about it..everyone ask me the same question once they i'm omani.

I am an Omani gay… it is bad OK, fine it is! But I know how it all goes.
If so Oman is not the only country that has it, if we to rank I would rather say KSA, Kuwait, UAE and then Oman. Why it is all about Oman, just because of the high profile people in the country being gay. That is the only thing.
If people like to criticize and act like reformers then gay things is not the only thing, they better look at themselves and start from there then when you find yourself 90% perfect move on to the rest of the people.
