Ashlee Simpson - I Am Me

Hmm , Ashlee simpson , the new rock/pop princess as it seems from the success of her second album which is released just a year after her 3 times platinum debut 'Autobiography' and currently sits on top of the Billboards Album charts on the strength of 220,000 copies sold in it's first week.
I admit that I quite like her style and I did enjoy her first album even with her slightly annoying and husky voice. She might not be the best singer around these days but at least she chooses the type of music that she knows she's good at and instruments that compliment her voice rather than some artists who 'try' to sing power ballads but just don't have the voice to pull it off.
The new album in my opinion is WAY better than her debut one , with Catchy songs like the first single 'Boyfriend' which is currently at #19 on the Billboard single charts and looks set to be another top ten hit for her. That , as well as 'In another life' , 'Beautifully broken' , 'Dancing alone' and 'Eyes wide open' , Heck almost all of the album is listenable.. appart from some cheesy or messy moments like the annoying 'L.O.V.E' and 'Burning Up'.
I think that she's on the right track and if she continues then she might be able to keep her status as a successful pop/rock chick.

The Rasmus - Hide from the sun

I didn't realize who they were when I first downloaded this album , and thought they were new to me , but after doing some research I realized that I've heard some of their songs b4 , like last years hit single the U.k #3 "In the shadows"..which i very much like.
Apparently this is their 6th studio album since they started 11 years ago , but only had their breakthrough last year with their album 'Dead letters' that sold around 2 million copies worldwide. Anyways , this new album 'Hide from the sun' is supposed to have some sort of vampire theme going on through it with song titles like 'No fear' , 'Night after Night' , 'Immortal' and 'Heart of misery'. I really liked that..cause I like albums that have a certain theme going on through them instead the songs being totaly random.
I am not sure whether to classify them as Progressive rock or alternative cause they're actually a bit of both.. like the first single 'Sail Away' is more alternative than progressive rock , but other great songs like 'no fear' is downright progressive... so yeah.. I guess fans of both categories would find the album interesting. I am a fan of alternative music more than rock but I really enjoyed this record , so do give it a try if you're into the whole rock category.

Nickleback - For all the right reasons

I really like the lead singer's voice , its so rough without being so hard on the ear..and I find his voice rather unique. I don't think I ever heard another singer that has a similar voice to his , which is why I suppose they're so successful especially in the states.
The album is already a chart topper and the first single 'Photograph' is already a top ten hit ( currently @ #3 on the Billboard singles chart ) so there's no worrying about them and I am sure they'll have alot more success comming their way , especially with such amazing songs that are just waiting to be released as singles , my faves being the really amazing 'Savin Me' which is a bit similar to their top ten hit 'Someday'.. and 'Far Away' which sounds like a song that can be used for a t.v show in one of its love scenes.
The rest of the album is alot more noisy and although very good , it gets a bit too much especially when listening to it at one go , well at least for me it is but I am sure hardcore rock music fans wont agree with that.

I want to check The Rasmus & Nickleback albums. Though I have been away from rock lately!
Thank you. =) And by the way, did you listen to Bronson Arroyo's CD "Covering The Bases"? I really enjoyed him singing cover songs like "Down In a Hole" by Alice In Chains, and "Something's Always Wrong" by the Foo Fighters. Give it a try if you like. Cheers!
