My sister last week was craving some Ice cream and wanted to go to baskin robins to get her usual 'very barry strawbarry' Icecream , so I suggested that instead of going there we should check out the 'softy' Icecream shop in Ruwi . When we were kids we always loved buying softy icecream from their trucks which usually park in the 'expo' parking and sometimes in the qurum park parking lot , so we never actually checked their shop.
We went there and we were surprised to see some REALLY old posters of 'softy' products which just brought back to us so many memories and gave us the feeling that we somehow went back in time to the 70's ( the posters there were made in 1976 ). We ordered our Icecreams , and it was just amazing. They tasted exactly the way we remembered them to be and just as delicious. We then talked to the indian guy who works there and he told us that the shop has been in business in oman since 1976 and al7amdillah has been doing rather well ever since. That guy has actually even worked there for over 15 years (mashallah) and was very friendly with us and from the way he was talking and helping us out it really seemed that he was enjoying himself and that he was happy with his job.
So ya'll.. forget Baskin Robins or Mcdonalds Icecreams...cause for a mere 200 Baizas you can get the most delicious ice-cream in Oman.
The shop is open till 1:30 A.M every day.

softy is what I call 'simple' icecream. Baskin robins , ben and jerries and so have a little more complex formula which is great..but I just prefer my icecream to be simple. Even when I go to baskin robins I end up getting plain vanilla.
I think I checked the place years back.

For some reason I don't like baskin robins... but I think the way the ice-cream's presented plays a big part! cuz I know I would prefer the ice-cream in a glass or plastic container rather than the carton ones they give... :os... it always has an effect on the taste...
I dont think I ever tried it. Might give it a try, if i ever pass by there.
Softy rules.... love the place, but only go there once every 2 or 3 years :}

I love that place. i havent been there in forever though. *makes a mental note to visit that place once hes back in Oman*
Also, I hate baskin robbins. They have all these funky weird formulas, and I swear the last 2 or 3 times I went there (the one in MQ) I could not finish the...ice cream...or whatever u call those godawful hybrids they do.
Although they do a pretty good Orange Sherbet, I think.
