I've been a fan of instrumental music from the movies for a long time now and I think I have my sister to blame for this. I remember how she used to go crazy over the ending music from the movies and how she used to record the themes using a tape recorder by setting it next to the t.v and making everyone just shut up so that she captures it on tape without interruption , cause long time ago we didnt have the net to download themes and we didnt have all the devices we now have for easy audio capturing.
'John Barry' is one of the main composers she used to follow , thanks to him composing the music of our all time favorite movie 'Somewhere In Time' , and so her obsession with his muic sort of passed on to me and now I am probably even worse than her when it comes to intrumentals. I even reached a point where I can't watch a movie b4 knowing who composed it's music score , and sometimes I even watch a movie for the sole reason that a composer I like composed it's music (yeah I know..I'm sad..lol ).
Anyways ,ever since I heard the soundtrack to 'somewhere in time' I got hooked to his style. The depth of his music , The way he is able to capture the emotions of the movie and translate it into the most beautiful music you can listen to and You just can't help but get emotional yourself whenever you watch a movie that has his music in it.
Some of the best music he composed includes the oscar winning scores for 'Out of africa' , 'Dances with wolves' and some of his newer releases which went un-noticed for some reason such as 'Swept from the sea' , 'Enigma' and 'The scarlet letter'. His sountrack to somewhere in time remains his most successful in terms of sales with over 1.5 million copies sold in the U.S.
I Uploaded some of my fave John Barry themes for anyone who wants to have a listen , but I am afraid if you didn't really watch the movies then the music might not have a major effect on you unless you actually are really into classic intrumentals to start with. But anywyas.. maybe you should just download them anyways incase one day you decide to watch the movies which I also highly recomend.
Enjoy. :)
John Barry - Indecent proposal
John Barry - Swept from the sea

oh my god.. u reminded me of my crappy small stereo and locking our parents room so that the music comes out "clear" as if that could happen.. i still have that tape by the way.. that was my most treasured cassette :P
u forgot to mention that he composed the soundtrack for 12 of james bond's movies as well!!
Maj

damn man!! ur sister and I have one thing in common... except that I've never really traced down the maker... usually I listen to the music in the end of the movie and record only what I like...

You know John Barry scored most of the James Bond movies, right? He didn't compose the James Bond theme, though he did re-arrange it to add the guitar that made the theme so good.
